Steaming and other heating procedures: During inflammatory phases, this treatment is not recommended. It can be used to clear blockages in subtle channels or srothas.
Vamana or medicated vomiting: Suitable medicines are orally given to induce vomiting. This procedure is very useful in removing blockage of subtle channels or Srothas of facial skin and whole body.
Virechana, or medicated purgation, is a cleansing process that involves the administration of bitter, astringent, and sweet herbal purgatives to reduce abnormally elevated Pitha principle and Raktha, or blood dhathu. In the early stages of inflammatory changes, this treatment is helpful.
Raktamokshana (Bloodletting): This is a well-accepted treatment for Vitiated Rakta Dosha. The circulating blood is a carrier of all vitiated doshas and is responsible for pathological changes that lead to diseases. Raktamokshana, the method of extracting stagnated blood, is beneficial in this situation. Sushruta describes three parasurgical methods for Raktamokshana: leech application, Prachaana, and Siravyadha. The affected tissue remains congested with the stasis of blood and bloodletting improves microcirculation to tissues by removing this stagnated and vitiated blood.
